The Withered Root
Publisher: Robert Holden, 1927
Edition: 1st UK, 1st impression, signed, no dust jacket
Binding: Hardback
Signed and dedicated to "Mary Elizabeth Britton" on the front endpaper. Rhys Davies was born in the Rhondda but moved to London as a young man and began a literary career. He spent time in France with D.H and Frieda Lawrence and was gifted a legacy from Anna Kavan. He never returned permanently to Wales and as a gay man probably felt more comfortable in the Bloomsbury and Brighton of the times. This novel lacks the dust jacket but is nonetheless a good reading copy. There is some foxing to text block edges; boards are clean apart from a small mark to front; some stitching showing; pages all clean and without marks or inscriptions.
