Based certainly on his then wife's experience as a schoolteacher in Kenya, this early novel from Theroux deals with the ambitions and outlooks of three white women teachers in a remote up-country school.  Much of the writing would be controversial nowadays.
This fine book has just an owner's ex libris sticker to front pastedown. The jacket shows a little wear to spine extremities. A small amount of foxing to rear; a ring mark to rear.  Good author photograph to rear flap.
