The D.C. Thomson Bumper Fun Book

Publisher: Paul Harris Publishing, 1977

Edition: 1st UK, 1st impression

Binding: Hardback, laminate boards

When the conservative and reclusive Beano and Sunday Post publishers got wind of this book, they sent a solicitor's letter from Dundee hinting at legal action.  Well, none transpired - the letter's even reproduced here as a frontispiece - but there would have been much gnashing of teeth at the top of Thomson towers, following this tongue in cheek exposé of some of the company's strange working practices.  More interesting perhaps is the social history writers such Mary Cadogan, George Rosie and Owen Dudley Edwards bring to light through their examination of the company's various publishing arms. This is an unique insight into this company's history, whose products have touched a very large number of people over many generations.
