Lolita

"A deeply uneasy read", said one critic and that remains the case for this controversial book. Much critical ink has been spilt and public opprobrium vented on whether this book is simply indecent and inappropriate, or is perhaps more a literary exercise in ironic and sarcastic surrealism. Martin Amis called it 'a study in tyranny' and a motif for the authoritarian Soviet Union Nabokov escaped. Regardless, this will remain one of the twentieth century's most important novels. The book has some slight foxing to front and bottom edges. Top edge red stain remains good. No marks or inscriptions. A little foxing to front and rear endpapers. Jacket is complete and only marginal wear. Rear slightly grubby in parts.
