Good Things
Publisher: London: Michael Joseph, 1971
Illustrator: M.J. Mott
Edition: 1st UK, 1st Impression
Binding: Hardback
The accompanying illustrations of family life, produce and equipment elevate this book well above the ordinary and as Grigson's second book only, it prefigures what was to follow. In her meticulous but accessible style she draws our attention - already in 1971 - to the importance of honesty and freshness in food and how simple treatments tend to be better. The book is very good with slight staining to the fore edge in one small space, with only the very slight odd other mark. It does not appear to have been much used near a kitchen. The rare jacket has some wear to the top edge but all is complete and the wonderful 17th century still life of fruit and flowers is as colourful and redolent as it ever was.
