Troyat's best-known work, published in French as La Neige en Deuil  in 1952 and rapidly translated into English by 1953, probable date of this issue in the very scarce first UK edition with dust jacket. The book is as concerned with morality and spirituality as it is with its Alpine context and is one of the finest books ever about mountain life. The book is fine with no marks or inscriptions. The jacket is near fine, but for some few marks to the rear panel and a little nibbling to the spine top.
