Smith departs her normal contemporary NW London: here, she examines a Victorian trial involving an associate of Charles Dickens, a slaver, and a housekeeper. The setting may be different but the author's usual verve and acute intelligence shine through again. In overall fine condition with the book as new and jacket just a couple of marks to the top edge and a little bumping to the spine top. But this beautifully produced book presents very well indeed.
