The Lost Pothole
Publisher: London: Brockhampton, 1961
Edition: 1st UK, 1st impression
Binding: Hardback
A potholing adventure and treasure hunt set on the Yorkshire Moors. This book is in fine condition with only a prize-giving plate to the front paste down and the school crest embossed to the front cover. A couple of offset tape marks to the end papers. Otherwise very clean and tidy. The jacket is very good, a little creased to the top edge and a couple of spots to rear. This is the true first Gollancz edition, not the much more common Children's Book Club edition which followed very shortly after.
Showell Styles was a highly prolific author of children's adventure stories, set mainly in a mountaineering context, a pursuit in which he also excelled. He also wrote a series of non-fiction books on various mountaineering topics.
