Publisher: Boriswood, 1931

Controversial novel telling the story of a thirteen year old stowaway on a merchant ship out of Liverpool. The book was subject to obscenity trials and only reached regularised publication well after the author's death, receiving in the 1990s a critical introduction by Anthony Burgess and a BBC radio adaptation. This expurgated version has asterixes replacing text deemed offensive. The book has no jacket. The spine top is fraying. Orange boards are rather grubby with ring/cup mark recto. Text block is clean with no marks or inscriptions. Some page edges poorly trimmed. No foxing although text block edges discoloured.
