The Diddakoi
Publisher: London: Macmillan, 1972
Edition: 1st UK, 1st impression
Binding: Hardback
Signed by the author to the front end paper. Such a special book, it won the Whitbread prize for children's literature and was then adapted into the BBC TV series "Kizzy" (first aired in 1976) and later a BBC Radio production. A wise, sensitive and kindly author, Godden here combines themes of identity, exclusion and redemption into a tremendously satisfying (and instructive) read for older children. This copy is very good to fine overall with no marks or inscriptions other than the author's signature (with no dedication), with some spotting to text block edges, not intruding to pages. The (price-clipped) jacket is a little worn to the top edge, with a small closed tear to the top RH corner front, but retains its beautiful colouring and superb wrap-around illustration. Very rare in this format; all now protected in full Brodart wrapper.
